Anatomy Adventure: 10-Week Workshop Overview

Week 1: Germs | Hygiene | Staying Clean
In Week 1, students will learn how germs spread and why hygiene is important. They’ll explore experiments to see how germs affect our world and discover healthy habits to stay clean.

  • Activities: Dish Soap & Pepper Experiment | Appearing Germs Experiment

Week 2: The Heart / Circulatory System
In Week 2, students will dive into how the heart works. They’ll explore blood flow and see why the heart is so important.

  • Activities: Blood Pumping Experiment | Heart Function Simulation

Week 3: The Eyes
Students will discover the anatomy of the eye. They’ll create models to understand how the eye helps us see and how all parts work together.

  • Activities: Eyeball “Dissection” with a Hard Boiled Egg | Eye Structure Construction

Week 4: The Brain / Nervous System
In Week 4, students will learn about the brain and nervous system. They will build models to see how the brain controls our body and mind.

  • Activities: Brain Model Creation | Pipe Cleaner Neurons

Week 5: Stomach / Digestive System
Students will explore the digestive system and how food turns into energy. They’ll test out how the stomach processes food and keeps us healthy.

  • Activities: Digestion & Excretory System Model | Digestive System Investigation

Week 6: Lungs / Respiratory System
In Week 6, students will learn how lungs help us breathe. They’ll build a model to explore how the lungs oxygenate our blood.

  • Activities: Model Lung Building | Respiratory System Exploration

Week 7: Diseases | Spread of Diseases & Purification
Students will learn how diseases spread and how we can stop contamination. They’ll build water purification systems to explore ways to reduce disease spread.

  • Activities: Water Purification System Design | Contamination Reduction Experiment

Why Anatomy Adventure?

Hands-on Learning
Students will engage in interactive experiments that make science come to life. They’ll get to touch, explore, and discover how the human body works.

Explore Real-Life Science
Each week focuses on a different part of the body. Kids will learn about systems like the heart, brain, lungs, and digestive system in a fun, engaging way.

Build a Healthy Future
By the end of the program, kids will understand the importance of health. They’ll know how diseases spread, how to stay healthy, and how to design a better, sustainable world.

Program was created by Los Alamitos High School student Adrian Lopez in 2025.

Meet Adrian Lopez: The Heart Behind Anatomy Adventure

Adrian Lopez is a dedicated student at Los Alamitos High School, Class of 2027, and a passionate advocate for his community. As the rising Vice President of The Youth Center’s Leadership Council of Students, Adrian actively strives to support youth initiatives and foster leadership within his peers. He is deeply involved in ASB as the upcoming Junior Co-President and serves as the founder of the LAHS Heart Club, where he inspires and teaches others to pursue careers in healthcare. Additionally, Adrian holds the position of Junior Co-President with the Rotary Club. Adrian has always been driven by a desire to help others and create meaningful change. He loves meeting new people and constantly looks for ways to give back to the community. His creative spirit shines through in everything he does, and he’s excited to bring that same energy to the Anatomy Adventure program.

Adrian is also a Night Among the Stars Stellar Award and Scholarship Winner and an active participant in international projects with the Better Lives Foundation and The Youth Center.

Though Adrian’s passion for medicine and biology didn’t emerge until high school, he quickly found his calling. He understands the struggles of not finding motivations and goals that truly resonate at a young age. Recognizing that there were no medicine or biology workshops for elementary and middle school students in his community, Adrian partnered with The Youth Center to launch the Anatomy Adventure workshop. His goal is to introduce younger students to the exciting world of medicine and biology in a fun, hands-on way—something he wished he had when he was their age.

With a dream to one day become a doctor or professor, Adrian’s vision is to inspire the next generation of scientists and healthcare innovators. He can’t wait to see where this journey takes him, and he is excited for the young minds who will join him on this adventure!
