Mayor Nefulda Shines Spotlight on The Youth Center: Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders Today
Los Alamitos, CA – May 20, 2024 – Mayor Nefulda has shone a spotlight on The Youth Center, a cornerstone of the Los Alamitos community, during a special presentation on May 20, 2024. Lina Lumme, Executive Director of The Youth Center, was honored by the Mayor as two remarkable students, Ally Hatakeyama from LAHS and Haydyn Hayes, a participant in Camp SHARK, shared their experiences and highlighted the invaluable role The Youth Center plays in their lives.
Haydyn Hayes spoke about her connection to The Youth Center, revealing that her mother, Lizz, had also attended the center as a child. Now, Haydyn finds herself benefiting from the same nurturing environment that shaped her mother’s youth. Ally Hatakeyama emphasized the importance of The Youth Center’s leadership and mental health programs, noting how they empower the youth of today to become leaders of tomorrow.
Established on July 25, 1952, The Youth Center has been an integral part of the fabric of Los Alamitos for generations. Countless local families have passed through its doors, participating in after-school programs and summer camps that foster growth, learning, and community engagement. The Annual Christmas Tree lot, a beloved tradition, has not only filled the air with holiday cheer but has also served as a vital fundraising event, with every penny from tree sales supporting youth programming.
Over the years, The Youth Center has evolved to meet the changing needs of the community, expanding its offerings to include a diverse range of programs tailored to the needs of today’s youth. From its humble beginnings to its present-day status as a pillar of the community, The Youth Center remains committed to providing a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for all.
Mayor Nefulda’s Business Spotlight program aims to recognize outstanding businesses within the City of Los Alamitos, and The Youth Center is a shining example of the positive impact businesses can have on their communities. Through this program, the city seeks to express gratitude, showcase excellence, and provide a platform for businesses to thrive.
